In Buddhist philosophy of Yogācāra, nose consciousness is one of the eight consciousnesses and plays a crucial role in how humans perceive and interact with the external world.
Nose consciousness, or olfactory consciousness, refers to the ability to perceive and recognize smells through the nose. This sense allows us to detect various olfactory stimuli, such as the fragrance of flowers, the aroma of food, and environmental odors.
According to the Yogācāra school, nose consciousness, like other forms of consciousness, is not merely a passive reception of external olfactory information but a manifestation of the mind. All perceptions and recognitions are interconnected with the functions of the mind.
