In Buddhist philosophy of Yogācāra, body consciousness is one of the eight consciousnesses and plays a crucial role in how humans perceive and interact with the world through physical sensations.
Body consciousness, or tactile consciousness, refers to the ability to perceive and recognize touch and physical sensations through the skin and body. This sense allows us to detect various tactile stimuli, such as pressure, temperature, texture, and pain.
According to the Yogācāra school, body consciousness, like other forms of consciousness, is not merely a passive reception of external tactile information but a manifestation of the mind. All perceptions and recognitions are interconnected with the functions of the mind.
