In Zen Buddhism, “enlightenment” is the ultimate goal of practice and represents the complete understanding and experience of truth.

“Enlightenment” is the profound insight into the true nature of all things and the state of personal liberation from defilements, ignorance, and the cycle of birth and death (Samsara).

Zen Buddhism places special emphasis on achieving enlightenment through direct experience rather than relying solely on the study of texts and theories.

In Zen Buddhism, “enlightenment” not only means personal liberation, but is also the core of Zen practice. Zen Buddhism believes that everyone has the nature to become a Buddha, that is, "Buddha nature", and to achieve enlightenment is to discover and experience this nature. Therefore, “enlightenment” in Zen Buddhism is not only a mental state, but also a practical and achievable way of life.

“Enlightenment” in Zen Buddhism is the recognition and experience of the true nature of things through direct experience, such as Zazen and Koan practices. This experience transcends the limitations of language and concepts.

Reaching the state of enlightenment means transcending psychological obstacles such as greed, anger, and ignorance, and achieving inner peace and freedom.

“Enlightenment” also includes a deep understanding of the interconnectedness and interdependence of all life, an understanding that promotes broader compassion and compassion.
